Baku Higher Oil School hosts opening ceremony of final stage of III Baku Scientific Olympiad
The practical part of the final stage of the III Baku Science Olympiad, organized among pupils of general education institutions under the jurisdiction of Baku City Education Department (BCED), has been held.
The Olympiad, organized jointly by BCED and Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS), is dedicated to the 101st birth anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
The event began with the singing of the National Anthem and honoring the memory of the Shekhids of the Motherland with a minute of silence.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Science and Education Metin Kerimli wished success to all pupils who have joined the Olympic movement. Metin Kerimli emphasized that the ministry provides special support to projects that increase schoolchildren’s interest in applied sciences.
“Our country has said its piece in the international arena in this regard and has achieved brilliant results. Thus, last academic year, our pupils, who can be called the Heroes of Science, won 61 medals at international Olympiads, including 4 gold, 17 silver and 40 bronze medals,” he said.
Metin Kerimli expressed confidence that Baku Olympiad on Natural Sciences will not only improve knowledge and skills of pupils but will also increase their learning motivation and self-confidence.
Deputy Director of State Agency for Preschool and General Education, Acting Head of BCED Narmina Huseynova spoke about the work with talented children and youth who are interested in creative and research activities and possess special potential skills in this field, as well as about the projects aimed at forming research abilities of pupils, which are realized in the capital's schools on a regular basis. Narmina Huseynova emphasized the important role of Baku Science Olympiad in the development of pupils’ knowledge and skills and stimulation of their interest in natural sciences.
Speaking about the importance of Baku Science Olympiad, which has been held for the third time, Rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov noted that such projects are very important in terms of increasing pupils’ interest in knowledge, identifying young people with exclusive skills in various subjects and ensuring further development of their potential abilities. The Rector wished success to all finalists who put their theoretical knowledge into practice in the research laboratories of Baku Higher Oil School.
In his speech, Chairman of Milli Majlis Committee Sadig Gurbanov noted that the reform projects realized in the education system have created a basis for the formation of talented youth. He emphasized that there has been steady increase in the number of subject Olympiads and international knowledge contests held in the country, which testifies to the important steps taken in this direction. Sadig Gurbanov expressed confidence that the talented Azerbaijani youth will make a great contribution to the fight against the consequences of global climate change.
In her speech, Keklik Asadova, the finalist of the Olympiad, a 10th grade student at Ecological Lyceum No. 291, noted that Olympiads and knowledge competitions are the path to success for schoolchildren. She wished success to all participants of the III Baku Science Olympiad.
Then a video about the Baku Science Olympiad was demonstrated.
This was followed by song and dance compositions performed by associative members of Children & Youth Development Center No. 3
After that, the guests got acquainted with the practical works conducted by the finalists, who participated in the II practical part of the final stage of the Olympiad, in the research laboratories of Baku Higher Oil School.
It should be noted that the pupils completed 1 practical work (a total of 3 practical works) for each subject (physics, chemistry, biology) within 4 hours.
