Rector of Bogazici University: ‘Baku Higher Oil School is a higher education institution with a very bright future’
Below is an interview with Rector of Bogazici University, Prof. Mehmet Naci İnci that he gave while visiting Baku to participate in the opening of the "Leadership Academy" training program, jointly organized by SOCAR, Bogazici University and SOCAR's Baku Higher Oil School.
- Dear rector, what can you say about the future prospects of cooperation between Bogazici University and Baku Higher Oil School?
- We have started the "Leadership Academy" training program between the two universities within SOCAR. I would like to thank Rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov for supporting this program. He was instrumental in signing the agreement on the project. The agreement provides for the implementation of joint MBA programs. In future, we will also implement Dual Diploma programs and other joint projects. Additionally, we plan to conduct joint research activities.
- The university you lead will celebrate its 160th anniversary next year. What experiences can a higher education institution with such a rich history share with Baku Higher Oil School?
- Bogazici University has rich experience in teaching engineering specialties. We can share this experience with Baku Higher Oil School and we can implement joint projects in this area. The Institute of Artificial Intelligence is already operating in our university. We are ready to cooperate with BHOS through this and other research centers.
- Dear Rector, we would like to know your impressions about Baku Higher Oil School.
- Despite its young age, Baku Higher Oil School has been admitting students with the highest scores since the first year of its establishment. BHOS has become a leader thanks to the successes it has achieved in many areas, especially including its victories at Teknofest. Baku Higher Oil School is a higher education institution with a very bright future. I believe that it will maintain this high performance. When I visited BHOS, I witnessed the excitement of the students working in the laboratories and their commitment to the university. BHOS is a leading higher education institution in Azerbaijan. I believe that one day Baku Higher Oil School will become one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
- As an educator and the head of one of the world's leading higher education institutions, what do you think are the new trends in higher education?
- We have left behind a long period of pandemic. After becoming the rector, I made my first foreign trip to Baku. This also has a symbolic meaning, of course, it stems from the love for brotherly Azerbaijan. When I came to Baku, I saw that life had returned to normal and that the classes were being held just like before the pandemic. Then, I visited the USA and Europe. Despite the fact that almost a year had passed since the pandemic period, the auditoriums in the U.S. and European universities were empty and the classes were held online. I don't think the online system is very successful. Although the hybrid system has some advantages, it cannot replace traditional education. I think that one of the new trends in higher education in the future will be one-on-one, project-based and research-oriented training.
