Students of Baku Higher Oil School win international competition organized by Huawei

Rector of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) Elmar Gasimov participated in the ceremonial closing ceremony of the “Seed For The Future” project organized by Huawei.

The event was attended by Ambassador of China to Azerbaijan Ms. Guo Min, Huawei Vice President for the Central Asia and Caucasus Region Liu Tong, Advisor to the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Nijat Mammadli, rectors of higher education institutions and other officials.

Students from about 500 universities in more than 130 countries participated in the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov said that it is gratifying that out of 30 Azerbaijani students who participated in the project, 15 were BHOS students.

“Baku Higher Oil School has extensive cooperation with Huawei. In 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Huawei, one of China's largest multinational companies, and BHOS. Huawei helped Baku Higher Oil School to set up a teaching laboratory for students. Thanks to this assistance, our students now have the opportunity to practically apply their theoretical knowledge in the laboratory."

Only one of the 3 Azerbaijani teams, the "9G" team, which included 4 BHOS students, won the “Tech4Good” competition held as part of the “Seed For The Future” project. The team consisted of the following students: Roman Tolstosheyev, a student of the Information Security Department; Fidan Guliyeva and Sultana Sultanova, students of the Process Automation Engineering Department; Rahima Abbasova, a student of the Petroleum Engineering Department. 

Roman Tolstosheyev and Huseyn Gambarov, students of the Information Security Department, were awarded the ‘Huawei’ ‘Seeds Of The Future Alumni’ certificate and special gifts from Huawei for their excellent academic performance.

The “Seeds for the Future” programme aims to develop skilled, local information and communication technologies (ICT) talents and bridge communication between countries and cultures while encouraging participation in the digital community.
