Winners of Baku Science Olympiad awarded

The ceremony of awarding the winners of Baku Science Olympiad, organized by the Baku City Education Department and Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) for students of general educational institutions in Baku, has been held.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Education Mukhtar Mammadov, Head of Baku City Education Department Mehriban Veliyeva, Advisors to the Minister of Education Elnur Nasibov and Rustam Agayev, BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov, Chairwoman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Education Gunel Safarova, MPs, university  rectors, heads of relevant structural subdivisions of the Ministry of Education and the Baku City Education Department, school directors, winning school teams and media representatives.

The ceremony began with the performance of the National Anthem. Then the participants of the event watched a video dedicated to the Baku Science Olympiad.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education Mukhtar Mammadov said that one of the most important priorities of Azerbaijani education is the nurturing of a new generation of young people with intellectual, scientific knowledge and skills, a broad outlook and a patriotic spirit, as well as the expansion of the Olympic movement. Noting that the Ministry of Education has taken serious steps in this direction, the Deputy Minister said that olympiads and competitions contribute to the development of knowledge and skills of schoolchildren, increase their motivation for learning and strengthen their self-confidence.

Speaking about the Baku Science Olympiad, Head of the Baku City Education Department Mehriban Veliyeva noted that its goal is to increase school students’ interest in natural sciences, improve the basic 21st century skills in this area, create conditions for applying theoretical knowledge and teamwork skills in practice. She noted that the Baku Science Olympiad, held to assess the skills and abilities of participants, provides school students with the opportunity to communicate with each other, concentrate on creative thinking, and reveal their practical and creative abilities. Mehriban Veliyeva thanked the BHOS leadership for providing school students with the opportunity to test themselves in the field of practical application of theoretical knowledge in research laboratories.

BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov congratulated the students who achieved success at the Baku Science Olympiad. The rector emphasized that such olympiads contribute to the identification of talented school students interested in creative and research work and the formation of research abilities in them. “We train highly qualified specialists from among young people with strong knowledge. Since the founding of BHOS, applicants with the highest scores have been choosing our university. Our students take high places at international and national olympiads, competitions and festivals, work in transnational companies, continue their education at the most prestigious universities in the world. Another indicator of our success is the fact that last year 33 out of 102 Presidential Scholars, ie. 1/3 were BHOS students. Our students were awarded 8 medals at Teknofest.

We are proud that our students received awards from two leaders of the Turkic world - President Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan - and Nobel Prize Laureate Aziz Sanjar, standing side by side with them on the same stage”.

Then medals were awarded to gold, silver and bronze medalists of the Olympiad. The students who were awarded incentive places and the members of the organizing committee were awarded diplomas and prizes.

The event presented compositions prepared by school students for the Baku Science Olympiad.

Then the winner of the Teknofest festival Faig Aliyev, a third-year student of the Chemical Engineering Department, a member of the Ateshgah team of BHOS, shared his success stories with the school students.

The ceremony concluded with the demonstration of the composition "Hymn of Youth" performed by schoolchildren.
