Rector of Kazakh-British Technical University: ‘Baku Higher Oil School has achieved very successful results’
Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) is one of the largest international universities in Kazakhstan, specializing in engineering, technology and business. Rector of KBTU, Professor Maratbek Gabdullin shared his impressions with us after meeting with Rector of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) Elmar Gasimov:
- Dear Rector, as part of your visit to Baku, you visited Baku Higher Oil School. What are your impressions of BHOS?
- I first learned about Baku Higher Oil School 3 years ago. At that time, we met with BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov at a conference in Beijing. The rector gave us information about your university, its campus, and the education program. The education program of your university is implemented jointly with the Herriot Watt University of Great Britain. It is a modern program. I also met with students from your university through academic exchanges. Baku Higher Oil School operates in connection with industry. Your university is a new and modern higher education institution. Despite operating for only 10 years, BHOS has achieved very successful results. While touring the university campus yesterday, I saw laboratories that are important not only for the development of curricula, but also for the development of research. Today, the oil and gas industry needs new, modern specialists. According to my observations, your university trains highly qualified English-speaking professionals who have the skills needed for the industry. Such specialists can contribute greatly to the development of the oil and gas industry.
- How do you assess the opportunities for future cooperation between the Kazakh-British Technical University and Baku Higher Oil School?
- There already exists bilateral cooperation between the two universities. Currently, 11 students of our university are studying at BHOS within the exchange program. Before that, several KBTU students majoring in Oil and Gas Engineering also participated in the exchange program. I think this is the first stage of our cooperation. We will develop this cooperation in the future. We also hope that BHOS students will study at the Kazakh-British University as well. We can also develop joint research materials for the oil and gas industry. We also have certain capabilities, including modern laboratories and programs, for simulating various oil and gas industry-related processes.
- Apart from the areas you mentioned, what are the prospects for cooperation between the two universities?
- In the future, we can exchange not only students but also teachers. The exchange of teachers between both universities can be of great benefit. Moreover, we can cooperate not only in the field of bachelor's programs, but also in the field of master's programs. Research can also be a field of our future cooperation.
- This is your first visit to Azerbaijan. We would like to know your impressions about Baku.
- Yes, this is my first visit to Baku. I really liked the city and the people who live here. Baku is a very beautiful and developed city. I visited a very interesting restaurant in Icheri Sheher. I also had the opportunity to see this ancient part of the city. Here you witness the harmony of ancient and modern Baku. This is very nice.
