Baku Higher Oil School handed over used electric batteries for recycling

Pursuant to the memorandum signed between SOCAR and IDEA Public Association, Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) handed over to the Public Association used electric batteries, with a total weight of about 20 kg.

These batteries were used in BHOS in PC mouse devices, wall clocks, microphones, landline telephones, photo and video cameras and other equipment.

In addition, some citizens voluntarily handed over to Baku Higher Oil School spent batteries that had been used for domestic purposes.

Used electric batteries, which are considered hazardous waste, are collected and stored at BHOS in specially designed boxes.

According to the memorandum signed between SOCAR and IDEA Public Association, used batteries are handed over to the Waste Management Center of the SOCAR Environmental Department.

Note that batteries filled with heavy metals, salts, mercury, and carcinogenic substances continue to pose a danger to people for at least 10 years.

Toxic substances from unutilized batteries left at home, on the ground, wasteland or in water can enter the human body and cause complications such as cancer, visual impairment, skin diseases, bone loss, lung diseases, nervous disorders, fatigue, weakness, defective childbirth and developmental delay in children.
