Baku Higher Oil School hosts workshop on 3rd Republican Innovation Competition

          The Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) hosted a workshop on “The 3rd Republican Innovation Competition”, which was announced jointly by the Ministry of Economy and the United Nations (UN) Office in Azerbaijan.

 

        The event was attended by Department Head of the Ministry of Economy, Secretary of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development Huseyn Huseynov;  Head of the Innovation Sector of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shabnam Mammadova; Head of the Innovative Development of Information Society and Electronic Governance Department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Azizov; teachers and students of the Baku Higher Oil School.

 

             Speaking at the workshop with an opening speech, Dean of the Engineering Department of BHOS Zafar Gurbanov emphasized that the faculty of Baku Higher Oil School has always supported innovative ideas.

 

             He said that by the order of Rector Elmar Gasimov, the Center for Innovation and Research was created at the Baku Higher Oil School and that the BHOS has established cooperation with foreign companies in this area.

 

              Zafar Gurbanov also noted that the students of Baku Higher Oil School have always successfully participated in innovation competitions.

 

              Department Head of the Ministry of Economy, Secretary of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development Huseyn Huseynov noted that the BHOS students have always taken an active part in the republican innovation competitions held so far and that they became winners of last year’s competition.

 

              He also emphasized that young people need to present new proposals for solving various problems in a startup format.

 

              Head of the Innovation Sector of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shabnam Mammadova noted that young people invent new ideas to solve everyday problems.

 

              In his speech, Head of the Innovative Development of Information Society and Electronic Governance Department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Azizov stressed that in order for a startup to become successful, it must be commercialized. 

 

              “I hope that in the future, we will witness the emergence of many useful, bright ideas in the field of young students’ activity,” he said.

 

              Rashad Azizov also called upon students to participate actively in the competition.

 

             Note that last year, the BHOS team comprising students Husseyn Aliyev, Elmar Askarzada, Yadigar Nazarov, Alexander Oborovsky, Murad Rahimov and their research supervisor, associate professor Amir Reza Vakhshouri took the first place in the 2nd Republican Innovation Competition and received the main prize of 5,000 AZN.

 

             And this year, candidates who want to take part in the 3rd Republican Innovation Competition can submit their ideas covering different areas to the competition through the Idea Bank (www.ideya.az) of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan or via email: narmin.babayeva@economy.gov.az.

 

             The winners of the competition will be awarded cash prizes in the amount of 5,000 AZN for the 1st place, 3,000 AZN - for the 2nd place and 2,000 AZN - for the 3rd place.

 

             In addition, the two teams that will become the winners of this year’s innovation competition will be eligible to participate in the STARTUp Day program to be held in Estonia.
