Conference of the Parties 23.5 Azerbaijan conducted at Baku Higher Oil School

A project entitled «Conference of the Parties (COP) 23.5 Azerbaijan» has been implemented at Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS). COP are yearly conferences on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which help the UNFCCC Parties to assess progress in dealing with climate changes. The COP 23.5 project is a simulation-based training aimed to review the implementation of the Convention that has a primary objective of tackling climate change issues around the world by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The main objectives of the conference jointly organized by the Baku Higher Oil School and oikos Baku, a local chapter of the oikos International, were to ascertain true understanding of significance of the Convention’s actions among the Azerbaijani youth through simulation-based learning and to create sustainable leaders who can think of feasible solutions for climate change issues.

The two-day event was attended by students from national universities as well as by experts and professionals from well-known companies and organizations. The BHOS five-year students Sahib Abdullayev and Rauf Mahmudzada greatly contributed to arranging the event. Before the project start, the guests were given a tour around the campus and were shown its infrastructure and facilities including lecture halls, training laboratories and sport complex.

Speaking at the conference, Diplomat for Culture and Education of Embassy of Hungary to the Republic of Azerbaijan Mihaly Gruber made a report on Hungarian policy and approach towards climate change. CEO of BCP Group Elshan Gurbanov spoke about climate change protocols and economic development. Specialist in Climate Change and Sustainable Development of EY company in Azerbaijan Medine Mammadova covered issues related to implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in climate change. Lead Advisor at the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of the Republic of Azerbaijan Fagan Abdur made a report on renewable energy and link with the climate change.
