1. Elmir, what can you say about the admission exams, what were your impressions prior to and after the exam?
- I was doing my best and studied very hard before and especially the last two-three months prior to the examinations to achieve my goal, to score 700 points. My parents, teachers and friends were sure that I would have good results. This in turn, was a strong motivation, but at the same time quite a big stress for me. As regards the exams, they were very hard. I would say that the post examination period was even harder, especially when you are waiting for your results and the score you are going to achieve.
2. Were the results of your mock exams good? Did you ever believe that you would score a high point?
- Usually, I used to get over 650 points during the mock exams. I was almost sure that my examination score would be high and this confidence was a big motivation for me. My family and friends also expected high results.
3. What should a prospective university student do in order to achieve over 600 points entrance score and how should one make the right choice of the relevant specialization?
- One should work very hard, sometimes even think of tolerating sleepless nights. But it doesn’t mean that you should live in isolation from all over the world. You should also take some rest, because studying all the time, plus thinking about the examinations are quite a stressful experience. In terms of specialization, I would recommend to make the choice at one’s own wish. It is also important to get some advice from your parents.
4. What was your reason for choosing this specialization and Baku Higher Oil School?
- BHOS was one of my first choices. My parents especially wanted me to enter this higher school. I had a dilemma between two majors and I opted for Petroleum Engineering, which was primarily based on some personal research I made in the internet and discussions with relevant experts. Finally, I made my decision and chose this specialization.
5. What does your interest to engineering is based on and what are your future plans?
- My great interest in Mathematics and Physics increased my desire for becoming an engineer. As regards my goal, I wish to become a professional engineer and hold a specific status in Azerbaijan’s energy sector.
6. What are your recommendations to the prospective university students wishing to study at BHOS? How do you find the education here?
- I would recommend setting a goal of achieving high results during the examinations. Studying at BHOS is not just about learning some technical skills, but at the same time having a broad world view. I highly appreciate the level of education at this higher school, as I am sure that when I graduate I will become a person with good English language skills and wide world view. I believe that I am getting the best education I could in Azerbaijan, because BHOS offers the most high quality education in the country.
7. How do you spend your leisure? What kind of hobbies do you have?
- I read books of national and international authors. Also, I like to take part in various intellectual games either individually or in a team.
8. And what about humanities and literature?
- I am interested in humanities, especially literature. My most favourite books are Patrick Süskind’s Perfumer, Sabahaddin Ali’s The Madonna in the Fur Coat, Robin Sharman’s The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari and Elif Shafak’s Love.
