2020 - Yagut Badalova - University of Alcala

Academics Alumni Dining Undergraduate

2020 - What a year to be an Erasmus student… It was only two months since my friends and I had been familiar with one of the World Heritage sites - Alcalá de Henares – and its fascinating University of Alcalá. An announcement by the president of Spain was live streaming and was being translated to me by my Italian friend - city was going to be lock down for next couple of weeks. I, with mixed feelings back then, had no idea for how long we are going to be locked in our houses and go for shopping once a week. Well, as anywhere in the world, lockdown period of Madrid city was extended and last about 2 months. Being in Alcala made it even harder to be in a lockdown as it was such a beautiful and historic city. But interestingly I was very excited about exploring the city for two times during the entire period: When I first arrived in the city and the first time we were out of lockdown. Furthermore, my friend and I spent our quarantine by building electronic projects and prepare for exams. To be honest, quarantine turned us also into good cooks and bookworms. We appreciated every day that we were healthy and managing the new style of education. The experience taught me so much that I am going to use it as a lesson for my future endeavors. Finally, no matter where or when is your Erasmus, there is one side of it that does not change for each and every Erasmuser - an unforgettable experience and nicest friends.
