Process Automation Engineering, 2018 graduate
- Why did you choose BHOS? Is there anything you would like to highlight regarding your experience at BHOS?
At the year when I took my university entrance exam, BHOS was the top university and I had started to research about it and also made a visit at the open- door day. The opportunities (e.g studying in English, learning materials of foreign universities etc.) that BHOS promised seemed very attractive to me. BHOS is an amazing university where the subjects/ classes that you take show you different aspects of your major, and it becomes really up to you to define your area of interest. For example, my speciality is Process automation engineering but currently I am working as a well completions engineer because when I was a student I took a class of "Oil and Gas Technologies" which really helped me to choose my career path. Most importantly, BHOS has extremely competent professors who are always ready to help you, and personally I did get a huge support from most of them.
- What is the most valuable lesson you have learned during your studies at BHOS? How do you apply it in your daily life?
Definitely time management , and coping with stressful situations:)! I think BHOS is a really great teacher of mine for being successful at time management. It does not matter how hard a subject/task is to study, you must cope with it within a defined time slot. And so from time to time you become more resilient and get used to the agile way of working. Now to be perfectly honest, nothing at work seems to me as hard as it was at university :).
- Can you please tell us briefly about postgraduate study?
I haven't taken a master's degree yet.
- Can you please tell us briefly about your current job (functions/company/industry)?
Right after graduating from BHOS, I have started to work at bp as Well Completions engineer challenger/ trainee. I graduated from the challenger program within 2.5-years ( the program was supposed to be completed within 3-years). I am continuously providing engineering support for successful and safe delivery of ACG (Azeri- Chirag- Gunashli) wells.
- Do you feel that BHOS well prepared you for the position?
I believe that the quality of education at BHOS provided all the necessary technical and soft skills to be confident in what I am doing right now.
- Would you want to share any tips or advice with students interested in applying to BHOS?
Consider studying hard at BHOS before applying to it, but believe me once you successfully graduate, you are going to have a flourishing career path ahead. I would like to specially emphasize a very well said phrase by our Rector Elmar Gasimov: "The employment opportunities will find you rather than you looking for a job after graduation".
