Baku Higher Oil School commemorates Day of Armed Forces

          A meeting dedicated to the Day of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, which is commemorated on June 26, was held at Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS). It gathered BHOS management, teachers, staff members and students. Opening the gathering, BHOS Vice-rector for training, science and international relations Ramiz Humbatov informed that June of 26 was announced as the Armed Forces Day in accordance with the Decree of May 22, 1998 issued by the national leader Heydar Aliyev. The Vice-rector emphasized that formation of the strong and well-equipped national army, which is on guard for borders, independence and territorial integrity of the country, is inextricably connected with the name of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people.

 

          Associate professor of BHOS English Language and Humanitarian Disciplines Centre Alamdar Shahverdiyev made a report entitled “Historical conditions of building the national army of Azerbaijan and challenges during its formation in 1918-1920.” Speaking about the role and place of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) in the history of the country, he said that even though ADR existed only for 23 months, its government undertook serious and successful steps towards strengthening the national statehood including building armed forces of the republic.

 

          In conclusion, a documentary film about ADR history, glorious way of the Azerbaijani armed forces and military training and operational readiness of the national army was shown.
