BHOS held a meeting with the participants of SOCAR Young Journalists Winter School Project

The participants of the Young Journalists Winter School Project jointly organized by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Azerbaijan Press Council visited Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS).

Welcoming the press officers Elmar Gasimov, the Rector of BHOS, expressed his honor of having the participants at the school and briefed on the history, mission, vision and the achievements of the school made within the short period of time, and gave some detailed information about the partnership established with well recognized international oil and gas companies. The Rector also emphasized that BHOS was among the top national universities in the rankings adding that the newly constructed modern campus would be opened the next academic year and become the biggest university campus in the Caucasus region. He informed the participants about the fact that in 2012/2013 academic year, BHOS was ranked first among the national universities based on the student recruitment indicators and that the training programmes were offered in English and in line with advanced teaching standards based on partnership with Herriot-Watt University of the UK. He also underlined that a wide range of measures were taken in order to increase the motivation for teaching and learning, while ensuring integration between theoretical and practical knowledge and transparency in knowledge assessment. Moreover, Mr. Gasimov noted that teaching and training at BHOS is in line with contemporary teaching standards and methodology and the school is taking significant steps towards developing and expanding its international collaboration.

Afterwards, Mr. Gasimov answered a number of questions put forward by the participants of the project.

It should be noted that the Project jointly implemented by SOCAR and Azerbaijan Press Council is aimed at professional development of young journalists wishing to specialize in oil and gas areas in terms of experience and professional skills. The Project is implemented with the view of increasing the quality of information on energy related issues, support the development of awareness raising among young journalists about specific aspects of various oil and gas industry domains, as well as about recent achievements of international and global importance made in the national oil sector, including relevant activities of SOCAR. The participants included a total of 22 mass media representatives and some 36 journalists representing television, news and information agencies and portals.
