BHOS and Baker Hughes Signed a Cooperation Agreement
Signing ceremony of the Cooperation Agreement between Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) and Baker Hughes Services International Inc. (Baker Hughes) was held at BHOS.
In his welcoming speech, Elmar Gasimov, the Rector of BHOS spoke about successful oil strategy pursued by Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Underlying that oil, gas and chemical industries were playing a significant role in development of the national economy, Mr. Gasimov noted that SOCAR was focusing on training highly-qualified specialists for these sectors. The Rector also briefed on the history, mission and vision of the school, as well as the achievements made within a short period of time and the partnership relations established with well recognized international oil and gas companies. He also emphasized that BHOS was among the top national universities in the rankings adding that the newly constructed modern campus would be opened the next academic year and become the biggest university campus in the Caucasus region.
Mr. Roy Woudwijk, Baker Hughes Country Director for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Russia Caspian Region gave a detailed information about the activities and services of the company noting that Baker Hughes has presence in over 80 countries of North and Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East. Russia, Caspian and Pacific regions and employed over 61.000 staff. He added that Baker Hughes offers a wide range of services, products, technologies and systems for global oil and natural gas production sector, and is specialized in drilling, evaluation, completion, subsea technologies, processing and production, and chemical products used in agriculture. Mr. Woudwijk expressed his belief that the established cooperation with BHOS would have a paramount contribution to training highly qualified specialists in oil, gas and chemical programmes. He emphasized the company’s proud in having the partnership relations with such a prestigious higher school as BHOS underlying that the Cooperation Agreement would create great opportunities for the prospective BHOS graduates.
The speeches were followed by the signing ceremony of the agreement.
Within the framework of the cooperation it was agreed to take necessary logistical, scientific and methodological as well as organizational measures in order to train highly-qualified specialists at BHOS. The agreement also envisages organizing practical experience for distinguished BHOS students at various premises of the Company, ensuring software procurement for BHOS to apply in teaching process, awarding scholarships to distinguished BHOS students, facilitating establishment of a specialized laboratory at BHOS campus, involving the company’s experts in the lecture delivery processes at BHOS, granting scholarship for distinguished BHOS students, assisting in career development of BHOS graduates, arranging summer internship programmes for the 2nd and 3rd year students of BHOS, organizing seminars, as well as ensuring financial assistance by the Company to Young Engineers Club and Circles established by BHOS and functioning at secondary schools.
