BHOS teacher says: Our Higher School will be internationally recognized.
Public Relations Department of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) continues its project entitled “I am teaching at BHOS”. Associate professor of Process Automation Engineering Department Naila Allakhverdiyeva is answering our questions.
– First question is a traditional one. Why have you chosen the teacher profession?
– The main mission of a teacher is to educate, and I like to be a teacher of young people to help them become better and more educated. Thus, I do participate, albeit not directly, in the development of intellectual potential of our country.
– Please tell about yourself.
– I grew up in a family of teachers and scientists. My father is an Honored Engineer of Azerbaijan, and he was a teacher at one our universities for more than 55 years. My mother is a professor and has dedicated her whole life to science and research work. Following their example, I chose the same profession. I have been teaching for more than 27 years by now. I believe that my decision was a right choice.
– Every student has his or her favorite teacher. Who was your favorite teacher when you were a student?
– My best-loved teacher at the university was Informatics lecturer Hanlar Gamzayev. In the 80s, informatics was not taught at school, so we started studying this subject at the university from the scratch. Hanlar muallim was a very skilled and experienced teacher and managed to foster our interest to informatics and software engineering. I am very grateful to him for this support. I feel that I am obliged to him, even if partially, for successes and achievements in my profession.
– Please tell us about your students. Who they are? How do you see their future?
– My students are very nice, clever and talented. I am very pleased to work with them. I would not like to speak about anyone individually, but I have to admit that every teacher does distinguish ‘favorite’ students whom he or she likes for being smart, cute and very talented. Of course, it is much easier to work with these students. However, I prefer to work with all students including those who are not so successful. A teacher’s mission is not only limited to helping a good student become an excellent one. A challenge is to make a low-performing student an outstanding one, and this is the real goal of teaching!
– How do you envision the Baku Higher Oil School in ten years?
– I believe that in ten years, our Higher School will be well known not only in Azerbaijan, but also in many countries abroad. I think that our graduates will bring glory to BHOS by their deeds and expertise, and we will not need to promote BHOS to make people learn about it. I also think that we there will be much more faculties at the Higher School and more specialities will be offered to students. Moreover, due to expansion of distant learning, education at BHOS will be available to young people at Europe and America!
– What do you do in your leisure time?
– Frankly, I do not have much leisure time, but when I do, I try to spend time with my family, go to countryside. And I also like playing piano.
– What would you wish to the first graduates of the Baku Higher Oil School?
– I would like them to be good representatives of our school, wherever they work. I also wish them to always remember their teachers. And most importantly, I would like them to be qualified specialists and true patriots of their motherland!
