BHOS students learn about medical aid in emergencies
A new course has been included in the class schedule for fifth-year Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering students of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS). It is entitled “Fundamentals of Medical Aid in Civil Defense” and is taught in English language. At the lessons, the students learn the basics of civil defense, classification of urgent and emergency circumstances in war and peaceful period, and rescue and first aid procedures.
During the course, BHOS undergraduates study main objectives of civil defense medical aid, methods of population protection in emergency, and carrying out anti-epidemic, sanitary and hygienic measures. The subject is taught by professor of the BHOS’ Chemical Engineering Faculty, Head of Military Hospital of State Border of the Azerbaijan Republic, Dr. Scient. Med Kanan Yusif-zada.
The course covers the following topics: The Role, objectives and organization of civil defense; Medical and tactical characteristics of damage sites caused by urgent and exigent cases; Organizing medical support for relocation of people in case of natural disaster or military threat; Personal and medical protective equipment; Provision of medical-evacuation measures of those affected by emergencies; and Providing first aid.
The teaching approaches to be used include both delivering a series of lectures and interactive training methods comprising presentations, group discussions, simulation and practical training.
