BHOS and German Academic Exchange Program (DAAD) held the opening ceremony of Baku Winter Oil School at BHOS

The event was attended by Khalik Mammadov, SOCAR Vice-President for Human Resources, Regime and Information Technologies, Fariz Rzayev, Head of International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education, Nicola Ullisch, Director of Baku Information Center, DAAD, project participants and BHOS teaching staff and students.

Making an opening speech, Elmar Gasimov, Rector of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS), expressed his satisfaction for meeting the students from Ludwig Maximilian University (Germany), Leipzig University, Berlin Technical University and other well-known universities at Baku Higher Oil School. He also detailed information about the project and emphasized that the main objective of the project was to introduce Azerbaijan, the country with wonderful landscape and ancient history, which plays a key role in maintaining energy security both in the region and Europe, to the international community. Mr. Gasimov also spoke about the mission and perspectives of Baku Higher Oil School, aimed at training high qualified specialists playing a key role in the development of the country.

Khalik Mammadov, SOCAR Vice-President for Human Resources, Regime and Information, emphasized the importance of implementing similar programs for sharing best knowledge and experience and boosting bilateral relation between Germany and Azerbaijan. Speaking about the history of oil of Azerbaijan, he noted the fact that Azerbaijan was the first country to produce oil by industrial methods and to extract offshore oil. Also mentioned that Azerbaijani oil experts had made outstanding contributions to world oil production, that is most of the oil fields in Siberia, India and Brazil had been explored by scientists of Azerbaijan. Afterwards, Mr. Mammadov gave detailed information about Azerbaijan’s Oil Policy and global energy projects implemented by SOCAR, which had already become a transnational company all over the world.

Fariz Rzayev, Head of International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education, spoke about the growing scope of reforms and measures implemented in line with international standards in Azerbaijan, the essence of human resources complying with modern standards. He particularly mentioned the importance given to the education field by the President of Azerbaijan Republic, Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the reforms in the country to this end.

Nicola Ullisch gave background information about DAAD’s activities and considered the establishment of higher education institutions complying with international standards like BHOS an important issue to be addressed. She expressed her satisfaction with collaborating with BHOS within the framework of several educational programs.
