Delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Federal Republic of Somalia visits BHOS

A delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, visited the Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) of SOCAR.

The meeting was attended by Somalia's Ambassador to Turkey Fathudin Ali Mohamed, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Mustafa Haji Hassan, First Secretary of the Somali Embassy in Turkey Ibrahim Ali Abshir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ruslan Nasibov (non-resident Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Somalia).

BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov provided information about the university's activities and international successes, as well as the newly opened Cybersecurity and Data Analytics specialties. He noted that BHOS offers wide opportunities to Somali students.

“SOCAR has allocated 3 scholarship places for students from Somalia. They will study Petroleum Engineering with a specialization in Reservoir Evaluation and Management. Several Somali candidates are now applying to BHOS within the ‘Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant’ program”.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, noted that it is an honor for him to be in Azerbaijan. He highly praised Azerbaijan’s achievements in the oil industry and emphasized the importance of training students from Somalia in the oil and gas sector at BHOS.

“BHOS's rich experience in this field creates great opportunities for students. In the future, it is planned to allocate 20 scholarship places for students from Somalia, and it is expected that this number will increase over time. In addition to the oil and gas sector, cybersecurity and computer engineering are also of particular importance to Somalia.”

In conclusion, the minister emphasized that efforts will continue to attract students to BHOS.

Speaking at the meeting, Somalia's Ambassador to Turkey, Fathudin Ali Mohamed, expressed his support for the establishment and expansion of bilateral relations. He emphasized that the increase in the number of students from Somalia will contribute to this cooperation.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was held on expanding cooperation opportunities between BHOS and higher education institutions in Somali. The possibilities of establishing joint diploma programs were also discussed.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali was presented with a plaque "Guest of Honor" of Baku Higher Oil School.
