BHOS hosts ‘International Mother Language and Culture Day’ event
The Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) of SOCAR recently held an event dedicated to the International Mother Language and Culture Day, which featured the participation of foreign students.
The event began with an introductory speech by BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov, who emphasized the significance of promoting intercultural cooperation and supporting the education of students from various nationalities. It was highlighted that there are currently 42 foreign students studying at BHOS.
Foreign students at BHOS are admitted through various means, including their own funds, grants, SOCAR scholarships, intergovernmental scholarship programs, the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant, sponsorships, the State Examination Center's centralized examination system, and partnerships and exchange agreements. These students come from countries such as China, Bangladesh, Congo, Somalia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Romania, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and others.
Nine students are studying under the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant Program, eight students from Congo are studying under an agreement between the National Petroleum Company of the Congo and SOCAR, three students from China are under the Intergovernmental Scholarship Program, and three students from Nigeria are part of a joint project between BHOS and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
BHOS also introduced a Chemical Engineering education program as part of a dual diploma program with Bukhara University of Engineering and Technology and Tashkent University of Chemical Technologies in Uzbekistan. Currently, 19 students from these universities have started their studies as part of the program.
In recognition of its internationalization efforts, BHOS received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Minister of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, Emin Amrullayev, for its "Internationalization Activities" in 2023 and 2024.
Speakers at the event included Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education Mujdat Hasanov, and Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan Vasile Soare. They all emphasized that the joint education of students from different nationalities, especially at BHOS, contributes to academic success and the development of intercultural understanding.
Throughout the event, students from various countries participated in national costumes and showcased cultural diversity through presentations, musical performances, and other activities. Participants included students from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Somalia, China, Kazakhstan, India, Turkey, Russia, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and Romania.
