Student of Baku Higher Oil School of SOCAR wins competition held by Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Fidan Jabrayilova, a 5th-year student of Chemical Engineering at SOCAR's Baku Higher Oil School (SOCAR), has won an essay competition held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan among volunteers on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

She was selected among more than 50 participants and awarded the 3rd place for her essay “The Khojaly genocide as the main component of Armenia's policy of ethnic hatred and intolerance”.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony of the winners of the competition, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov said that the Khojaly genocide was a continuation of the policy of ethnic cleansing committed against Azerbaijanis since the 80s of the last century. He noted the importance of considering this crime as an integral part of the policy of ethnic hatred and intolerance pursued by Armenia at the state level against the Azerbaijani people.

In his speech, Head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aykhan Hajizada said that conditions have been created to attract a large number of volunteers to the essay competition covering various topics. “The purpose of the competition is to help the participants to investigate in-depth the facts related to the Khojaly genocide and to inform the world community about this bloody tragedy. The peace process cannot start if such crimes remain unpunished”.

More than 50 participants from 23 volunteer organizations, including SOCAR Volunteers, participated in the initiative.
