Baku Higher Oil School hosts event dedicated to Victory Day
Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) has hosted an event dedicated to November 8 - Victory Day.
The event was attended by families of the Shehids, veterans of the Patriotic War, faculty and administrative staff of the university.
First, the event participants honoured with a minute of silence the memory of the Shehids who gave their lives for the liberation of Azerbaijani lands. Then, the state anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, Rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov congratulated the audience on the Victory Day. Elmar Gasimov spoke about the heroism shown by the Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev in the 44-day Patriotic War, which put an end to the 30-year occupation, and the unity of the Azerbaijani people. Addressing the students, the rector said that being intellectual soldiers of Azerbaijan, young people should not forget the history of their country and its bloody pages, should know their friends and enemies, and should always and everywhere honourably represent their country.
“For many years, we had been waiting for the Victory Day, which we are celebrating today. It is the most magnificent victory in the history of Azerbaijan. Two years ago, under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, the valiant Azerbaijani Army, our Shehids who gave their lives for the Motherland, and our brave veterans gave us this Victory and wrote golden pages in our history. Thanks to them, the people of Azerbaijan has gone down in history as a heroic and victorious people. Our tragic days have been left behind. We have entered a new stage, a bright future. Therefore, we must preserve our unity, and we must rally around our President, who is constantly fighting for the eternal peace.”
Speaking at the event, Nariman Hamidov, father of the National Hero of Azerbaijan, Shehid Shukur Hamidov, said that Victory Day is a sacred holiday that the Azerbaijani people had been looking forward to for many years.
“Having united as an “Iron fist” around our esteemed President, our people demonstrated their struggle to the world and showed their strength to the enemy. We should stay alert after this victory. We must remain vigilant and be ready for any provocation from the enemy. We must maintain our unity and must always be ready to defend our lands.”
Speaking at the event, Captain Shamkhal Agayev, a veteran of the Patriotic War, a reserve officer of the Special Forces, who was awarded the Karabakh Order, spoke about his military path, his comrades who died heroically for their Motherland. The war hero said that the names of the Shehids will live forever, and that he, along with his comrades in arms, will tell the younger generation about the war heroes who gave their lives for their native land, about their life and military paths and about their exemplary heroism. Addressing the students, Shamkhal Agayev said that a true patriot, along with being always ready to defend his land, should also become a professional in his work in order to benefit his country.
In his speech, Petr Kuvshinov, a veteran of the First Karabakh War, a teacher at Baku Higher Oil School, also spoke about his military path, shared his memories, and gave advice to young people.
The event ended with the screening of the documentary film “Shusha, you are free!”, produced by Baku Media Center and Salnamafilm studio with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
