Hackathon, organized by SOCAR and 4SIM, has successfully completed at Baku Higher Oil School
The “Energy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution” Hackathon Competition, jointly organized by the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4SIM), has successfully completed at Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS).
During the three-day competition, young people presented their innovative ideas on the application of “green” and digital energy technologies in Azerbaijan, particularly in the East
Zangezur and Karabakh economic regions, the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources, and the strengthening of energy security. During the intense competition, in which teams consisting of students and graduates of various higher educational institutions took part, the participants demonstrated their knowledge and skills in such areas as “Energy and the Internet of Things", "Energy and Artificial Intelligence", "Energy and Digital Economy ". Congratulating the winners of the competition, President of SOCAR Rovshan Najaf said that the theme of the hackathon was determined in accordance with the strategic goals of our country. “Therefore, the competition is aimed at supporting the formation of innovative ideas in Azerbaijan, the development of renewable energy sources, and the strengthening of the potential of highly qualified personnel. The transformation of Karabakh into a green energy zone is one of the main directions of modern development strategy determined by the head of the state. In this context, the use of renewable energy sources in the East Zangezur and Karabakh economic regions will make a valuable contribution to the development of small and medium-
sized businesses in the region, increase the level of employment and strengthen the energy security of the region.”
Speaking about SOCAR's strategic initiatives, such as energy transition, digitalization and innovation, Rovshan Najaf expressed satisfaction with the successful work of youth in such areas as alternative energy sources, data analytics, artificial intelligence-based decision-making and the Internet of Things. Speaking at the award ceremony, BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov noted that the hackathon has a special significance in terms of the development of knowledge and skills of talented youth and the presentation of their innovative ideas. Emphasizing that young people with innovative ideas presented interesting projects at the competition, Elmar Gasimov noted that the competition has created a favorable environment for forming new friendships and exchanging knowledge.
Speaking about the importance of the competition, 4SIM Executive Director Tamerlan Taghiyev emphasized the great interest of young people in the project. Touching on the dictating and decisive role of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digitalization in the world economy, the executive director said that the strengthening of the position of Azerbaijan in this process and its inclusion among the leading countries is one of the immediate goals. Tamerlan Tagiyev noted that such projects are also planned to be carried out in the future with the aim of supporting talented youth in the implementation of their innovative ideas, promoting the development of digital knowledge and skills, and contributing to the development of the innovative ecosystem in our country. Based on the evaluation of the jury, consisting of specialists in the respective fields, the Hydroponics team took the first place, the Zangezur team took the second place, and the Generation Z team - the third place. The teams that took the first three places received 5000, 3000 and 2000 manats, respectively. Additionally, the two teams that were awarded with incentive prizes received 500 manats each. The awards were presented to the teams by SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf, 4SIM Executive Director Tamerlan Taghiyev and BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov. At the same time, certificates of appreciation were awarded to judges, mentors, volunteers and organizers of the event for their active participation in the “Energy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution” Hackathon Competition.
Among the awarded were BHOS employees: Orkhan Guliyev, the winner of the 1st “Yüksəliş” competition, the chief operating director of the Caspian Innovation Center and a teacher at the Processes Automation Engineering Department; Emil Aslanly, the head of the Career and Student Affairs Department of BHOS, who actively participated as organizers of the hackathon competition; Ramil Shukurov, Aigul Musaeva, Ilkin Balazade and Nidzhat Hasanov, teachers at the Process Automation Engineering Department, who participated in the competition as mentors.
