Information on the event held at SOCAR on the occasion of Oil Workers Day

On September 20, 2022, an event was held on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the signing of the Contract of the Century and the professional holiday of employees of the oil and gas sector - Oil Workers Day.

First, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of SOCAR Supervisory Board Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov, Member of SOCAR Supervisory Board and Chief Executive Officer of Azerbaijan Investment Holding Ruslan Alikhanov,  President of SOCAR Rovshan Najaf, and employees of SOCAR visited the grave of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of independent Azerbaijan, the founder of the new oil strategy of our country and the national leader of our people, in the Alley of Honor. They  commemorated the dear memory of the Great Leader with deep respect and reverence.

Then, the participants of the event visited the Alley of Martyrs, where they  commemorated with deep gratitude the memory of all our martyrs who had heroically sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our country. They laid a wreath in front of the Eternal Flame Memorial.

At the event held in the SOCAR Tower, the participants viewed a photo exhibition reflecting the attention and care of the great leader Heydar Aliyev to the development of the oil sector, as well as rare books on the history of the oil industry presented by the Republican Scientific and Technical Library.

At the beginning of the conference dedicated to the Oil Workers Day, a minute's silence was held in memory of our soldiers who had heroically died for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the event, SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf prayed for God's mercy to our soldiers who died heroically while preventing large-scale provocations by the Armenian armed forces, and patience to their families and loved ones. Rovshan Najaf congratulated Azerbaijani oilmen on the occasion of the Oil Workers Day and said that the awarding of high state awards to a group of distinguished oilmen by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, is another manifestation of the President's high appreciation of the difficult and responsible profession of oilmen.  He expressed his gratitude to Mr. President on behalf of the SOCAR’s staff. He stressed that the foundation of the stable and inclusive development of our country was laid by the Contract of the Century as a result of the wise and decisive leadership of the great leader Heydar Aliyev and the successful diplomacy of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev. The president of SOCAR emphasized that the Contract of the Century gave a strong impetus to the sustainable development of various sectors of the country's economy, especially the oil industry and human capital, and further increased the economic power of Azerbaijan. Rovshan Najaf said that the multifaceted export-transportation system established under the purposeful and far-sighted leadership of the head of the country ensures direct access of Azerbaijan's energy resources to the world markets, creates a favorable basis for increasing our country's competitiveness and strengthening its energy security. Stating that this year's Oil Workers Day coincides with the 25th anniversary of the first oil production from the “Chirag” platform under the Contract of the Century, Rovshan Najaf congratulated all foreign partners on this occasion and thanked them for their contribution to the development of our oil industry.

Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of SOCAR Supervisory Board Mikayil Jabbarov congratulated oil workers on the occasion of the significant day. He said that the Contract of the Century and the successfully implemented national oil strategy will contribute to the socio-economic development of our country, attract large-scale investments to the economy, increase the country’s reputation in the international world, and accelerate the process of its integration into the world economy. He emphasized that the implemented large-scale oil and gas projects not only ensure the energy security of Azerbaijan, but also make a great contribution to the reliable energy supply of our partners.

Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov congratulated oil workers on the occasion of the professional holiday and said that the establishment of the Oil Workers' Day in our country testifies to the high value given by Heydar Aliyev, the founder of Azerbaijan's oil strategy and the national leader of our people, to the profession of oil workers, who strengthen our independence through their hard work. The minister stressed that the Contract of the Century makes continuous contributions to ensuring Azerbaijan's energy security and raising our country to the position of a reliable partner.

Speaking at the event, BP's Vice President for Communications and External Relations in the Caspian Region Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli congratulated oil workers on their professional holiday. “This day also marks the 28th anniversary of signing of the Production Sharing Agreement for the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli Field. The Contract of the Century is one of the masterpieces of the perfect, far-sighted strategy of national leader Heydar Aliyev. This agreement is one of the largest deals in the world, both in terms of hydrocarbon reserves and investment volume”, he said.

Speaking about the historical significance of the Contract of the Century, the First Vice President of SOCAR Khoshbakht Yusifzade emphasized that this contract was signed as a result of the personal influence and decisive position of the great leader Heydar Aliyev and the diplomatic skills of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, who participated in the negotiation process as the head of the Azerbaijani delegation at that time.

Then, a group of oilmen working in SOCAR's Head Office, enterprises, joint ventures, operating companies and partner companies who had distinguished themselves in their work were awarded the “Honorary Oilman” badge and the Certificate of Honor.

After that, the president of SOCAR Rovshan Najaf read the letter of thanks addressed by the oil workers to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

At the conference, the presentation of the newly created Volunteer Group of SOCAR was held.

Speaking at the presentation, Aysu Zamanova, a member of the Volunteer Group, said that the volunteering movement initiated by the head of the country is one of the main directions of the youth policy implemented by our state. She emphasized that by participating in this movement, young people gain experience in various fields and acquire important knowledge.

As part of the event, a video entitled “I'm proud to be an oilman” dedicated to the Oil Workers Day was shown.
