Murov team of Baku Higher Oil School wins second place at Teknofest

The Murov team of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) has won second place in the “Green Technologies” competition organised as part of Teknofest, Turkey's largest aerospace and technology festival, which was held for the first time in Azerbaijan.

The team, mentored by Head of the Chemical Engineering Department Amir Reza Vakhshouri, includes 5 students majoring in Chemical Engineering. The project presented by the team envisages the production of biodiesel from waste oils with the use of various substances and catalysis. This project was also awarded first place at the International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Researchers held at Baku Higher Oil School.

Below is an interview with the members of this team.

Fidan Jabrayilova, the captain of the team, is a fourth-year student majoring in Chemical Engineering. She entered the university in 2018 with 670 points.

Fidan said that the project was worked on for two years.  “A new team was formed after the announcement of Teknofest, and each team member had different knowledge and skills. Teknofest has opened new horizons for us. Thanks to this festival, we have learned to be better in team work. Our skills have further developed. We got acquainted with different ideas and people at the competition venue.” Speaking about future plans, Fidan said that the team plans to work harder on the project and conduct experiments.

Farid Huseynli is a 4th year student of the Chemical Engineering Department. He entered BHOS in 2018 with 667 points.

Farid said that he was proud to represent Baku Higher Oil School in such a major competition as Teknofest. "It is a special feeling to feel the unity of Baku Higher Oil School once again, to represent it, to get acquainted with the projects of the teams, and to receive awards on that stage."

Ruslan Hasanov is a fourth-year student majoring in Chemical Engineering. He entered BHOS in 2018 with 682 points.

Ruslan said that they worked hard on the project. “Thanks to this festival, I have developed many of my skills, including scientific ones. My desire to work in the laboratory and my interest in science has increased. I have learned to work in a team and developed my communication skills. I really enjoyed what we did. "

Chingiz Hajiyev is a second-year student majoring in Chemical Engineering. He entered BHOS in 2020 with 681 points.

“We developed a successful project. The jury evaluated the potential of the project and awarded it. At Teknofest, we met new people, informed them about the project, worked in a team, learned to manage our time. The festival has brought a lot of benefit to us”

Togruz Azizli is a fourth-year student of the Chemical Engineering Department. He entered BHOS with 680 points. Togrul believes that winning an award by participating in an international festival such as Teknofest is a great achievement. Thanks to Teknofest, we have presented our project to people. People who got acquainted with our project learned to be more careful about the application of waste oils. This festival has also increased our desire to learn and master.”
