Gulustan team of Baku Higher Oil School wins in Teknofest
The Gulustan team is one of the three teams of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) that won the Green Technologies Competition organised as part of Teknofest, Turkey's largest Aerospace and Technology Festival, which was held for the first time in Azerbaijan. The team, which took third place in the competition, consists of the fifth-year students of the Chemical Engineering Department: Gullu Huseynli (captain), Zaur Imamaliyev, Kafya Abzarova and Rashad Ahmadov. The leader of the team is Nasir Sultanov, the director of the BHOS Laboratory, and the consultant of the team is Elmar Askerzade, a BHOS graduate and employee.
The startup project presented by the team focuses on energy consumption, which is one of the global problems. The project saves energy by reducing the use of air conditioners for cooling solar panels. For this purpose, phase-changing substances are applied to the panels to regulate their temperature. According to the team’s estimates, this project can save 25% on energy.
Elmar Askerzade, a consultant for the Gulustan project, said that the project won a competition shortly after its inception and that the team have begun to further develop and test the project. He emphasized that one of the advantages of the project is that it is innovative, energy-saving and future-oriented. “The project has been very successful so far. It has won various competitions. The project has benefited from Teknofest in terms of strengthening its experience”.
The captain of the team Gullu Huseynli said that they have been working on the project for several years and the project has passed from the idea stage to the startup stage. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the British Council, Baku Higher Oil School and the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce. The British Council has allocated a grant for the project. Through this grant, pilot tests are currently being conducted, and then it is planned to apply for a patent and put it up for sale. Gullu believes that the future of the project will be even brighter.
Rashad Ahmadov, the marketing manager of the team, said that the project has great prospects as it focuses on such principal areas as energy waste reduction and green energy. Rashad stressed that Teknofest was very useful for him and his teammates and that participation in the festival was one of the most memorable events in their lives.
Zaur Imamaliyev, who carries out visual works for the project, said that Teknofest has benefited him in terms of developing his skills, making different impressions, and creating conditions for new ideas in the future. “Teknofest is also important in terms of delivering the project to a larger audience”.
The team members said they are confident that the project will win an award and be in the top three.
