BHOS students to participate in Teknofest festival

Students of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) will take part in Teknofest, Turkey's largest aerospace and technology festival. Baku Higher Oil School’s team “Yeddi Gözəl” has qualified for the second round of the Agritech competition to be held as part of the festival.

The team will participate in the competition with the "Araz" project. The socially oriented project has achieved the highest results among Azerbaijani universities, including BHOS teams. Thus, the team “Yeddi Gözəl” of Baku Higher Oil School has won the right to represent BHOS at the Technofest festival to be held in Baku in May.

The team’s project is aimed at solving drinking water-related issues by developing an effective solution. The growth of the world's population, rising living standards, changes in consumption patterns and the expansion of irrigated agriculture are driving the demand for water. The main reason for water shortages is the inefficient use of water in agriculture and industry. The Araz project is expected to contribute to the Agritech industry by increasing drinking water resources. Water flowing down from the roofs of residential buildings during the rain, as well as excess water that causes rivers to overflow, means a large loss. The Araz project aims to develop a specific device to address this problem and make it accessible to everyone. The recent floods that have damaged crops and habitats in the southern zone could have served as a large water supply, if the issue had been approached properly.

The teams “Hakari”, “Mubariz Ol” and “Polad” of Baku Higher Oil School will also participate in the Agritech competition.

As in the rest of the world, the problem of water shortages in Azerbaijan is becoming more serious. This is the reason for the creation of the "Araz" project. The Order of President Ilham Aliyev "On additional measures to ensure the efficient use of water resources" dated July 27, 2020 and the recently adopted new rules on river water also highlight the seriousness of this problem. Decrease in water level in Araz and Kura rivers leads to reduction of water resources.

It is no coincidence that the team “Yeddi Gözəl” named the project "Araz". Yeddi Gözəl is a famous waterfall in the city of Gabala, and Araz is one of the most beautiful rivers in Azerbaijan. Yeddi Gözəl (The Seven Beauties) is also a poem composed by the Azerbaijani genius, the classic of the Turkic world Nizami Ganjavi and the famous ballet of the same name by Gara Garayev.

The Teknofest festival has been organized annually by the Turkish Technology Team (T3 Foundation) and the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey since 2018. The fact that Teknofest, Turkey’s largest aerospace and technology festival, will be held  for the first time outside Turkey in Azerbaijan once again  testifies to the friendly, fraternal and strategic alliance existing between the two countries.
