Students meet with witnesses of Khojaly genocide
A series of events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide have been launched in higher education institutions as part of the “Justice for Khojaly” international awareness campaign.
A commemorative event was held at Baku Higher Oil School in order to remember the genocide and pass information about it to future generations.
During the events, students were informed about the steps taken to raise the world’s awareness on the Khojaly genocide within the “Justice for Khojaly” campaign. These measures, amongst other things, included the publication and dispersal of printed and video materials, as well as the use of other propaganda tools.
It was noted that as part of the “Justice for Khojaly” campaign launched in 2008 on the initiative of Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, numerous commemorative events dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy have been held in various countries. As a result of these measures, the legislatures of 17 countries and 24 US states have adopted relevant parliamentary resolutions on the official recognition of the Khojaly tragedy as genocide.
Live witnesses of the tragedy Valeh Huseynov and Ibrahim Hasanov shared their bitter memories of the horrors of the Khojaly tragedy. They emphasized the need to convey the truth about Khojaly to the wider public in order to prevent such tragedies in the future, and stressed that young people have a special responsibility in this respect.
At the end, the students' questions were answered and their suggestions and comments were heard.
Commemorative events, organized by the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations' Union, have also been held in other higher education institutions during the week. Baku State University and Azerbaijan State University of Economics have also implemented commemorative measures to ensure that the Khojaly genocide is not forgotten and the truth about this tragedy is passed on to future generations.
The main objectives of the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign are to give an adequate political and legal assessment to the Khojaly genocide at the international level, to ensure that the justice is served and perpetrators are punished, to perpetuate the memory of the victims of the genocide.
