Graduate teacher of Baku Higher Oil School: ‘BHOS gave me both knowledge and wonderful friends’
Rashad Nazaraliyev is a teacher at the Petroleum Engineering Department of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS). He teaches Introduction to Oil and Gas Engineering, as well as Subjects A and B of Oil and Gas Processing.
The students' beloved teacher graduated with honors from BHOS and Heriot-Watt University in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering. Rashad Nazaraliyev continued his education at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where he pursued a Master's degree in Formation Engineering and Petrophysics.
He worked as an engineer at SOCAR, BP, and Equinor ASA in Norway. Rashad Nazaraliyev undertook internships in Smart Well Completion Application and Carbon Dioxide Capture & Storage in the Heidrun Oil Field in the Norwegian Sea.
He says that BHOS gave him both knowledge and very good friends.
“In my opinion, a university is not only an educational institution, but is also an environment in which everyone is formed. Sometimes I think that without BHOS, I would have been formed differently, and maybe I would not be who I am today. In this regard, I owe a lot to BHOS for shaping me. Along with the knowledge, BHOS gave me many wonderful friends. I keep in touch with these friends and teachers, and we support and help each other. I try to repay my debt to BHOS by teaching its students.”
Rashad Nazaraliyev says that he has a special love for teaching.
“My grandfathers were also teachers. My parents and many of my relatives are also teachers. Being surrounded by teachers, I had a kind of instinctive interest in the academic field. While studying at university, my classmates told me that I should work as a teacher, not in industry. They said that I had an excellent explanatory ability and that thanks to this ability, I could make an excellent teacher. I have always shown great interest in the academic field. Despite receiving job offers from industry, I chose to return to Azerbaijan and work in the academic field. So, after completing my education in Norway, I decided to come to BHOS and teach students what I had learned abroad. I even thought of sharing the knowledge and experience I gained while studying there with our future students.”
