Meeting held with refugees and IDPs studying at Baku Higher Oil School
A meeting was held with refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) who study and work at Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS).
The meeting was attended by Rector of BHOS Elmar Gasimov, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev, responsible employees of BHOS and the State Committee, students and their parents.
Speaking at the event, Elmar Gasimov said that one of the main characteristic features of the dynamic socio-economic development of Azerbaijan is that this progress has a positive impact on the life of each citizen.
“These successes also influence the living conditions and social status of people who were forced to leave their places of residence because of the occupation policy pursued by Armenia. Despite the fact that Azerbaijan takes one of the first places in the CIS and Europe in the number of refugees and IDPs, it is considered a country that has achieved high results in terms of improving the living conditions of citizens of this category. Improving the living standards of refugees and internally displaced persons is one of the main priorities of government policy. The refugees and IDPs who work and study at Baku Higher Oil School have demonstrated clearly that our compatriots belonging to this category of citizens have fully justified the trust placed in them. Students who are from the occupied territories of our country are distinguished by their intellectual potential, discipline and abilities. Among them are students who scored the highest points in entrance exams, Presidential scholarship holders, authors of advanced projects and programs, winners of international scholarship programs, students studying for a master's degree in the most prestigious educational institutions in the world, leading employees of well-known local and transnational companies. Currently, 85 students from our occupied cities and districts are studying at BHOS. Those of them who study on a paid basis have been exempted from tuition and are enjoying special privileges,” the rector added.
Then Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev gave the audience information about the historical roots and realities of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“The people who left their homes as a result of the conflict have suffered severe hardships. President Ilham Aliyev is committed to improving the living conditions of internally displaced persons, providing them with employment and housing, and increasing their material well-being. Appropriate measures are being taken on a staged basis in this direction. In accordance with the tradition laid down by the national leader Heydar Aliyev, the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, allocates part of its resources for the construction of new settlements to improve the living conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons.
Besides a strong army, the Republic of Azerbaijan needs educated, intellectually developed youth to restore its territorial integrity. Our youth should use the opportunities created for them to get a good education, master modern knowledge, defend the interests of our people and our state on international platforms”.
Rovshan Rzayev also noted the high level of state care for education in Azerbaijan.
“Development of human capital is one of the main priorities of state policy. In this context, investment in education is of great importance. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, plays an exceptional role in the development of the education sector and the strengthening of its material and technical base. New kindergartens and schools meeting modern standards are being built in the settlements that are being built to improve the living conditions of internally displaced persons. Everything possible is being done to increase the standard of living of internally displaced persons,” Chairman of the State Committee said.
Rovshan Rzayev answered the meeting participants’ questions and urged students to provide all kinds of assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons and to join volunteer programs.
At the end of the meeting, Rovshan Rzayev received the Guest of Honor package from BHOS.
