Baku Higher Oil School, Bahar Energy Operating Company sign Memorandum of Understanding

Rector of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) Elmar Gasimov met with President of Bahar Energy Operating Company (BEOC) John Harkins.

Having congratulated John Harkins on his appointment, Elmar Gasimov informed the guest in detail about Baku Higher Oil School, the education process, the work done and the successes achieved.

Noting that young people who show high results in entrance exams held in the country choose Baku Higher Oil School, Elmar Gasimov said that 23 out of the 102 students who were awarded Presidential Scholarships this year are students of BHOS.

“Baku Higher Oil School trains professional English-speaking engineers in accordance with modern international education systems. The school cooperates closely with local and multinational companies of international level. BHOS graduates undergo internships at partner companies and subsequently get jobs there,” he added.

At the same time, the rector expressed hope that in the future several graduates of Baku Higher Oil School will work at the BEOC.

John Harkins, in turn, said that 12 out of 800 employees of Bahar Energy Operating Company are professional engineers.

He also said that if 5 years ago 12 foreign employees worked in the BEOC, today only 3 foreigners work in the company.  John Harkins noted that this happened because local specialists now work in senior positions that used to be held by foreign nationals.

“Your campus, which meets international standards, and your multifunctional laboratories allow students to get acquainted with real business. I am an engineer myself; therefore, I understand the importance of practical training for engineers. In this context, we would like BHOS students to get to better know our structure. This will allow us to meet high potential students and provide them with work if necessary”, he said.

Towards the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on mutual cooperation was signed.

Under the terms of the Memorandum, students of Baku Higher Oil School will undergo internship at Bahar Energy Operating Company and BEOC specialists will conduct master classes for BHOS students.  The document also provides for the further expansion of cooperation between Baku Higher Oil School and Bahar Energy Operating Company.
