BHOS first MSc students presented their projects

First students of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) doing Master of Science (MSc) degree in Chemical Engineering (Oil&Gas Technology) made presentations on the Field Development Project (FDP). The panel of experts was comprised of Department Head of Heydar Aliyev’s refinery Dr. Baladadash Zeynalov, Process Engineer of SOCAR-KBR LLC Anar Guliyev, and BHOS academic staff members including Senior Lecturer of Petroleum Engineering department Elkhan Ahmedov, Head of Chemical Engineering department Dr. Sevda Fatullayeva and Associate Professor of the Chemical Engineering department Sadagat Farzullayeva. Professor Graeme White and Assistant Professor Gregor Colville representing the assessment team of Heriot-Watt University (HWU) participated in the presentation through online conferencing by Skype.

FDP, which is a group-based project, aimed at equipping the students with leadership qualities and professional expertise. During the FDP implementation, they needed to design a process plant using expertise gained from previous technical courses and integrate engineering, mathematics, science, and computer based methods with economic, environmental, social, and ethical principles. Within six weeks, BHOS MSc students were tasked to develop a technical design of a FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) unit for a hypothetical oil and gas field assumingly in the North Sea, decide on the type and number of production facilities, conduct an economic appraisal of the entire field, and make conclusions. They also had to demonstrate that their design assumptions, decisions and recommendations were the best practical solutions.

The FDP course was led by prof. Graeme White, Professorial Fellow of the School of Engineering & Physics of HWU and supervised by BHOS Associate Professor Dr. Sadagat Farzullayeva, PhD in Chemical/Process Engineering of Fuel and Gas, Associate Member of The Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK).

The results of the assessment will be revealed in the first semester of 2018/2019 academic year. Those students who receive the pass mark will be granted the permission to start their Master Dissertation project.
