Baku Higher Oil School hosts research stage of Baku Science Olympiad

With the organizational support of the Baku City Education Department (BCED) under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the second round (research stage) of the final of the Baku Science Olympiad has been held on the campus of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS).

Opening the event, Head of the BCED General Education Sector, Fuad Babayev, thanked Baku Higher Oil School for providing a venue for the Olympiad and wished success to the participants.

Speaking at the event, Head of the Education Department of Baku city Mehriban Veliyeva called the event a real “Holiday of Science” and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and BHOS leadership. She said that about 800 students of general education institutions in Baku took part in the first stage of the Olympiad and 60 of them reached the final. Mehriban Veliyeva spoke about the importance of demonstration by students of their skills and knowledge and wished success to the participants.

Speaking at the event, BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov said that it is gratifying that an educational festival of such a high standard is being held at Baku Higher Oil School. The rector noted the importance of holding scientific Olympiads in terms of demonstrating the knowledge of students. He emphasized that participation in Olympiads helps students to identify clearly their goals.

In his speech, Head of the General Education Organization and Management Sector of the Ministry of Education, Fuad Garayev, wished success to the participants of the Olympiad and said that such platforms are important for knowledgeable, hardworking and talented students.

The main goal of Baku Science Olympiad is to increase students' interest in the natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology), improve their theoretical and practical knowledge in these disciplines, create conditions for the development of their practical and creative skills, and identify especially talented students. The Baku Science Olympiad serves as a preparation for the selection of students of general educational institutions for participation in the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). The IJSO is a scientific competition held annually for students of general education institutions under the age of 15.

60 students in 20 teams took part in the research stage of Baku Science Olympiad, held at Baku Higher Oil School. In the second round of the final stage of the Olympiad, held among the students of VIII, IX and X grades of secondary schools in Baku, the participants had to complete 1 practical task for each subject (3 practical tasks in total) within 3 hours. The first 3 teams that scored the most points in both rounds of the final stage became the winners of the Olympiad.
